I love date night; whether it’s going to the cinema, going out for dinner or having a film night, I think it’s important to set some time aside to chill out and do something as a couple together. So when Puttshack got in touch to say that their new branch had opened in Lakeside, I just knew that it had to be mine and Billy’s next date night!

Puttshack in Lakeside

The venue is in the new part of Lakeside, which was kind of hard to find at first.

You’ll find Puttshack in the new Boardwalk section; alongside Vue cinema and a number of restaurants, cafes and bars.

First impressions of Puttshack were great – we checked in downstairs in the lobby, and then headed upstairs where we were treated to a bustling open planned area with the various crazy golf courses, a huge wrap around bar, DJ section and plenty of seating where you could relax and order bar snacks and meals.

We checked in using the handy booking machines, and then took our place on the Violet course, which featured a number of fun courses and obstacles to work around, including ping pong cups, a bowling alley and a loop the loop! Without giving too much away… the course is great fun, and includes some fun and interactive features too. I can’t wait to try out all of the other courses!

The food & drink

After a game of crazy golf, we headed over to the bar for a drink, and then grabbed a table to order some bar food. It’s by no means gourmet here, but the food is great and there’s a wide choice to choose from. From small sides plates and burgers to pizzas and sides, there’s something for everyone to snack on and enjoy!

I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken burger and Billy had the cheeseburger. Both burgers were super tasty and cooked well, and the fries were a good accompaniment. The cocktails went down an absolute treat as well. Did you know that the Puttshack bar has an extensive list of rums to try out? That’s a reason in itself to make sure you visit Puttshack!

Would I recommend Puttshack?

Yes – I definitely would!

I’m a big fan of crazy golf, and so I really enjoyed playing tech mini golf, with automatic point scoring. It’s a great idea to keep count of how many shots you’ve taken, so you can’t persuade your boyfriend to let you have another go after hitting it off the course a couple of times….. *ahem*.

Puttshack is ideal for family days out with kids or a night out with friends or your other half – it’s good competitive fun – and the atmosphere is exciting too!

So if you’re looking for things to do in Essex, look no further than Puttshack at Lakeside.

Have you been to Puttshack before? What’s your favourite crazy golf course?
