Does anyone else find packing your hand luggage just as tough as packing your main case?

After a fair few city breaks, including destinations such as Bucharest, Hamburg and Barcelona, I’ve finally managed to keep my hand luggage to the bare minimum. So here are the travel essentials for a short haul flight!

The essentials

My friend bought me a travel wallet from Kikki and I use it every single time I go away! It holds my passport, boarding passes, money and any other travel documents I need all in one place. I always make sure I’ve got my phone and camera packed too – alongside the numerous chargers, extension cables and travel plugs too! I like to have an itinerary put together as well on paper copy when I’m going on holiday, with lists of places to visit, restaurants to check out and things to see and do (my friend Jade is the Queen of travel planning!)

sony wireless headphones

A good pair of headphones

I never go anywhere without a pair of good quality earphones or headphones in my bag. I always carry a pair if I want to concentrate on some work, listen to some background music for a long car journey or just an activity that requires some background music. Packing a pair of headphones – especially my new pair of Sony Wireless Bluetooth Headphones – is a must so that I can play my Spotify travel playlist when I’m up in the sky! They’re comfy enough to wear whilst sleeping on the plane, and can be popped around my neck or over my bag when I’m travelling through the airport so I don’t need to worry about them getting damaged.

The top features of these Sony WH-CH700N headphones include:

  • The ability to stream music through the wireless Bluetooth headphones
  • High quality sound
  • Digital noise-cancelling to block out all distractions
  • Google Assistant at your service
  • 35 hour battery life so you can listen all day

The headphones are super comfy to wear and are easy to use. Simply download the ‘Headphones Connect’ app, switch on the headphones, enable Bluetooth on your phone and sync the two together. Leave the app open and then you can switch your music tab to start playing your favourite tunes! The 35 hour battery life is super handy as well, and they’re easy to charge when they need a boost.

With thousands of headphones to choose from, London Stansted Airport have put together a best travel headphones guide to give you a little helping hand on which pair to go for. From closed back headphones to on-ear headphones, in-ear headphones to noise-cancelling headphones – there’s the perfect pair out there for everyone!

Don’t forget you can Click & Collect your headphones on the London Stansted Airport website before you fly – which gives you a little more time to browse all the shops in the airport and relax.

Toilettries

I tend to buy all the small toilettries before a holiday, or I decant my current products into small travel sized tubs to use. I use my own clear makeup bag and pack a mini deodrant, face wipes, moisturiser, mini shampoo and condition, serum, travel toothbrush and toothpaste, lipbalm, mascara and some makeup remover. My toiletry bag is always jam packed – so I need to teach myself how to fly light on this one!

Clothes and shoes

City breaks are my absolute favourite trips to go on as I love to squeeze in as much as possible in a short amount of time. When it comes to choosing outfits, I like to pack around 3 or 4 outfits for a weekend break, and around 2 or 3 pairs of shoes – alongside underwear, pjamas and anything else I may need on the trip. I try to pack light but it doesn’t always end up that way! Accessories are a must too – I love my over the shoulder Michael Kors bag as they help to smarten up any outfit.

Snacks

For my handbag, plane snacks are an essentail – no matter how long the flight is! A meal deal from Boots is usually my go-to once I’ve passed security (9 times out of 10 I go for a Southern fried chicken wrap and Walkers Sensations FYI) and a bag of jelly or chocolate sweets to munch on during the flight. I always get a bottle of water once I’ve passed security too, just so I know I have a drink on me.

So there you have it – my hand luggage travel essentials for a short haul flight! What are your go-to essentials?

A pair of good headphones is essential for any flight for sure – I love to watch Netflix or even listen to a podcast to pass the time! My toiletry bag is always jam packed as well hahah, I can’t pack light even if I am only taking hand luggage!
