I love afternoon tea, so when I found out one of my birthday surprises was to have afternoon tea at Bourgee in Chelmsford, I was super excited to see what it was like…
My friend Grace texted me last week and said she was
organising a surprise.
She’d kindly booked Afternoon Tea and prosecco to celebrate
my 21st birthday, and it was such a lovely surprise!
I’d never been to Bourgee before, but it’s a new restaurant at The Exchange in High Chelmer, nestled in-between Turtle Bay, Cote and Carlucci’s.
The interior inside is gorgeous; there’s a reception as soon as you step in, with a beautiful
water-wall feature that opens you up to a stylish and sleek restaurant, with marble
interior and soft acoustic songs playing in the background.
Bourgee have given Afternoon Tea a ‘Bourgee Twist’ with the
creation of afternoon tea on the lawn.
The box included open toasted Bourgee lobster bagels, steak
and caramelised onion brioche and warm sausage rolls in a shortcrust pastry. For
dessert, there were warm doughnuts with cinnamon sugar, crisp coated fruit
skewers with dipping sauces, cake and glasses of Prosecco!
Another year, another birthday insta.. 😉 HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY @hannacornish I hope you have a gorgeous day at the spa! Here’s a few snaps of us over the years looking half sober half.. 🥂😎 lots of love, see you v soon! 🎀💝
I demolished the lobster bagels, they were so delicious. The
bagels were soft and warm, and the lobster filling super flavoursome and tasty.
The warm sausage rolls had just the right amount of herby sausage, and the shortcrust pastry had a nice flakey crunch to it.
The warm doughnuts were served in a little bag, with a
creamy coconut dip and a dark chocolate dip. The warm doughnuts were so
delicious rolled in cinnamon sugar, they went down an absolute treat!
The banana, strawberry and pineapple skewers had a lovely
crunchy glazing on them, so it felt much more refined as opposed to just eating
some fruit on a stick.
Grace also ordered a slice of fudge cake for me, with Happy
Birthday written in chocolate with a massive sparkler sparking away; it was the sweetest surprise!
I’m looking forward to visiting Bourgee again, the crispy
beef in steamed buns on their main menu looks delicious!
Where is your favourite place to go for Afternoon Tea?
