So, I’m off to Berlin later this evening with my Media class at College – I really ought to be packing I expect! I’m looking forward to it because a) I haven’t been abroad for 6 years and b) it’ll be fun to explore a city that I’ve never been to before and interesting to learn about their culture.
We’re going for 3 days and 4 nights and we have a pretty packed schedule. We’re staying at the Meininger Hotel Berlin and using that as our base.
Tuesday starts off with a “Continental Breakfast” – praying for chocolate croissants – and then we’ll be visiting Berlin Studios, East Side Gallery (1.3km section of the Berlin Wall), Checkpoint Charlie Museum (named after the famous crossing point on Berlin Wall) and a German Film Museum.
Wednesday we are going to Sachsenhausen Memorial & Museum – a concentration camp which was used between 1936-1945. In the afternoon we will visit a Holocaust Memorial and Brandenburg Gate. Later in the evening we will be visiting the Sony Centre in Potsdamer Platz.
Thursday we will be sight seeing around central Berlin and perhaps squeeze in some window shopping. I’m also hoping to attend the Berlin Film Festival as Leonardo DiCaprio is there – eeeeep! Our flight is at evening time and we’ll be back in Essex by midnight.
I’m looking forward to the trip but at the same time, I think it’ll be an emotional one. I went to Holocaust memorials when I went to Belgium and it left many of us in tears, and here will be no exception.
I’m planning on photo documenting my trip to Berlin to blog about once I’m back, hopefully it’s something you’d enjoy reading 🙂 Have a lovely week guys!
