I’ve been on a few short breaks this year and I’ve loved them; exploring a big city in a few days is good fun because you manage to cram so much in!
This year I have visited Budapest, Barcelona and Pisa – all of which have been amazing to explore!
Holiday Gems have tasked me with coming up with destinations I would love to visit this Winter – so please let me know if you have any recommendations and I’ll be sure to add those to my list too!
Tenerife
I went to Tenerife on a summer holiday with my family last year, and we enjoyed two weeks of beautiful sunshine, long walks and lots of eating! The best excursion was a day trip to Mount Teide Volcano by coach. The coach climbed steep, winding roads through forests and dusty open spaces to reach the peak. It was a beautiful view and next time I visit, I want to visit the very tip of the volcano and stand on the viewing platform.
I would love to return to Tenerife this winter for a relaxing holiday, taking advantage of the quiet water parks and visiting local restaurants and bars. Have you been to tenerife before?
Ibiza
Ibiza is on my list of destinations to visit one day. I would love to visit the quiet, quaint villages of Ibiza and spend a weekend exploring the white cobbled streets, sipping Aperol and relaxing in the evenings watching the beautiful sunsets.
Porinatx and Puerto de San Miguel look like the perfect villages to spend a relaxing weekend in, and are known for having some of the best restaurants on the island – so my inner foodie lover needs to visit here! What are your top tips for visiting the party island?
Croatia
I’ve seen so many people go to Croatia this summer on my Instagram feed; it’s a destination I would love to add to my list of places to visit! It’s an affordable alternative to the Mediterranean, with beautiful crystal blue waters, hot weather and picturesque views. The region has some of the most beautiful beaches and spectacular cultural landmarks, such as Dubrovnik, where you can enjoy historic attractions and scenic natural landscapes, perfect for planning hiking and trekking trips.
It’s the perfect cultural city where you can enjoy both thrill-seeking and relaxing moments, alongside beautiful beaches and a great nightlife. Have you been to Croatia before? What would you recommend doing there?
Portugal
And last but certainly not least – Portugal!
I would love to visit the cliff beaches in Algarve or the vibrant streets of Lisbon, and enjoy a weekend exploring the alluring and picturesque country. It’s full of charming culture and is rich in history, with endless budget-friendly attractions to visit! During the winter, temperatures hit around 14°C or 15°C, which is still a pleasantly warm temperature to explore and enjoy a country in.
The food, of course, would be something I would love to try out. I want to try the delicious peri-peri chicken and a pastel de nada, Portugal’s classic custard tart. What local dishes would you recommend I try in Portugal?

I would also love to visit Croatia and Portugal – I rarely think about weekend breaks to places such as Tenerife and Ibiza but that would be lovely to jet away to a hot city for a few days break. X

Oooh yeah I’d really like to visit Portugal too! I’m also really keen to go to Amsterdam and to see the fjords in Norway. I’d also jump at the chance to go back to the Dolomites again, it’d be amazing to see them in winter. In fact, maybe I should just move there!! xxx

Definitely, go to Algarve! I went last year in the summer and it was amazing! I never thought I would love Portugal as much as I did! For winter holidays though, I would love to go skiing, up to the mountains, rent a cute chalet or something 🙂

I’ve never been to any of these places before but I love the look and sound of every single one! I think Croatia is on the top of my list – like you I’ve also seen a lot of people travelling there this summer and it just looks stunning! And if there’s hiking to be done I’m there!

Portugal is absolutely beautiful, if you manage to go to Lisbon I have a guide of some of the top things to see in the great city. You’ll fall in love with it. So much to do!!!
