Intu Lakeside Stampede Review

I love food. Good food. There’s nothing more comforting than delving into a good looking, good smelling dish. Thanks to Intu Lakeside, I think I’ve found my new favourite fast-food eatery…

The team at Voice Comms and *Stampede invited me down to their eatery at Lakeside in Essex to sample their menu; full to the brim with burgers, ribs, wings and sides. I’m sometimes sceptical about fast food outlets… would they produce good quality food? Restaurant standard? Or is it just another one of those calorific fast food outlets? Well I was well and truly BLOWN away by the food. You can thank me later.

The Milkshakes:

I love a good milkshake, me. I opted for the vanilla one and my dad the strawberry one. The consistency was just right. Mine was super vanillary but not too sweet, with the perfect amount of smooth ice cream ratio to liquid! It was topped with squirty cream and chocolate flakes, with corresponding straw colours. Super cute touch.

The Burger:

So at Stampede, there’s three types of burgers to choose from: lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight. I’m glad I asked what they were because I was just going to go for the heavyweight, ( I assumed it meant it was rammed with ALL the toppings ) but instead it’s to do with the amount of meat patties are inside! So I opted for the middleweight with two patties, from the recommendation of Rob – the super helpful chef there.

The burger was insanely good. The flame-grilled patties had that perfect BBQ/charcoal flavouring, slathered in cheese, burger sauce, mustard, pickles, raw onion, lettuce and bacon, incased in a soft brioche bun. Phew. It tasted crazy good and my mouths watering just thinking about it.

The Wings:

So my Dad ordered some Peri Peri chicken wings with a blue cheese dip, with recommendation from Rob! You can order them in either a 3, 6 or 9 piece and they also come as just plain buffalo wings. The meat was tender and fell off the bone, the sauce had a sweet kick to it but complimented the chicken perfectly.

The Ribs:

Another meat dish Dad chose was the half rack of ribs. They also come in 1/3 and a full rack for someone with a little more appetite! This was his favourite dish and I didn’t hear anything from him until they were demolished! I tried some and it tasted so flavourful and tender – and I’m not usually a rib kinda gal! The meat was tender and fell off the bone with ease, and it was packed with SO much flavour. BBQ sauce can sometimes come across as hideously sweet, but this glaze was just the right amount and sweetness and smokiness!

The Fries:

I can’t big these up enough. These are by far THE BEST SWEET POTATO FRIES I HAVE EVER HAD! Like I could quite easily live off of these. Maybe. They are crunchy, crisp and seasoned on the outside just right, with a sweet, soft fluffy inside! I could have easily made my way through a bunch of these. The portion size was pretty generous, so you could easily share it between two people for a snack. But no my honey, I swiftly cleared this dish up.

 The Dessert:

I was so excited to try the cookie and ice cream burger but they’d completely sold out, sob, so instead we had a generous portion of vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of maple sauce. I couldn’t even manage a spoonful cos’ I was definitely about to explode, but dad was pleased with it! If I had room I’d of definitely ordered the hot waffle and ice cream dish but y’no, there’s always next time!

So yeah. Basically. You need to get down to Stampede ASAP because you will not be disappointed. There’s a restaurant in Leeds and an eatery at Lakeside, but fingers crossed they’ll be expanding their empire soon! Thank you to Rob & the team for all the recommendations and for being super friendly and helpful!

P.S. Make sure to order the sweet potato fries. You can thank me later.

It sounds as though you had enough food there for a family, I would have only just got through the burger on its own, let alone everything else, haha! Sounds as though it was a good feed though; I love 'fast food' places that are a lot better than you'd expect, it's always a nice surprise, PLUS it's nice and easy as well 🙂 I absolutely love the theme design of the place as well, it looks so striking (especially with the mechanical bull) and it's definitely something I'd be drawn to in a food court for sure!
