Press Night At Revolution in Southend

Revolution bar Southend
I’ve never been to a Revolution bar before, so I was excited to receive an invite to the press launch for a brand new Revolution bar in Southend!

I went with Charlotte from withlovelottie, and her friends Danielle and Hannah.

We started the evening looking around the bar downstairs. I didn’t take any great photos as I only had my phone on me as I decided to go last minute, but the downstairs had a wooden interior with a chunky sloped marble bar and industrial exposed hanging lights. There’s plenty of room to sit and relax downstairs, and a few booths with comfy leather seats and round marble tables and chunky wooden chairs to sit and enjoy food and drink at.

Revolution bar cocktails

I had a Cosmopolitan Martini to start with which was sweet and delicious. SKYY Citrus vodka with Cointreau, cranberry juice and lime, and garnished with an orange flame. There are so many cocktails I’d love to try, including the Quacktail – a super cute vodka and passionfruit drink with mini rubber ducks on top – and Get The Ketel On – a vodka, earl grey and fruity cocktail, served from a teapot!

After having a look around the first floor, we headed upstairs into the Upper Terrace.

The Upper Terrace room is absolutely stunning. The floors are in a pale laminated wood, with soft cream L-shaped sofas and plenty of rustic-looking tables and chairs. The room was flooded with natural light and decorated with industrial lights and rustic, outdoor features. The back wall definitely caught my eye though, the grass and flower wall looked beautiful in contrast to the bar and seating area. It’s a gorgeous retreat of a room and what’s more, the roof is retractable! Bring on the long summer days and evenings to enjoy cocktails up there!

After exploring the top floor, we settled down for a cocktail master class. We were able to make our own cocktails, so I decided to make Sweet Dreams, one of their ‘heroes’ cocktails. The cocktail consists of Ketel One vodka, Malibu rum, Blue Curacao, Grenadine, pineapple and lime. We added a dash of lemonade on top to create a sweet dream of a drink! The cocktail comes with a side of Rainbow Drops pegged to the side of the cocktail as well, which added a fun touch.

We headed back downstairs and settled down to decide on what to feast on for dinner. We took a little while to choose what to order because for a bar, the menu is absolutely fantastic!

Revolution bar food

Revolution burgers

After much deliberation, and a lot of handy pointers from the waitresses, I decided to order the Brooklyn Chicken burger; a buttermilk fried chicken burger with streaky bacon, smoked cheddar, chipotle bbq sauce and fried pickles. You know me, I love my food, so the fried pickles deserve a special little shout out. Their fried pickles are deep fried gherkins and it worked SO well! I also swapped my regular fries for garlic fries and oh my god, I will NEVER forget about these chips for a long time to come.

Revolution garlic fries

The chips are cooked in a garlic oil, and then sprinkled with shavings of parsley and you guessed it, more garlic! From the first mouthful I was in absolute garlic heaven. The chips were perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, and the garlic infused oil at the bottom of the dish worked perfectly as an extra garlicky side. If you love garlic, and boy do I, I’d recommend ordering these!

Revolution wotsit burger

Charlotte ordered the Smokin’ Bacon burger; a beef burger smothered in smoked cheddar, chorizo ketchup, streaky bacon, smokinnaise, crispy onions and the game changer – WOTSITS. It sounds like an odd combination but Charlotte can confirm that it worked VERY well.

Revolution pizza

Danielle and Hannah both ordered pizzas which were created and baked freshly in the in-house pizza oven. There are five pizza combinations to order, either as a whole pizza or a half pizza with side salad, and a range of extra toppings to add to your chosen pizza. You can also create a Fifty Fifty pizza where you can choose any two half pizzas to create your own masterpiece! A pretty good idea and not something I’ve seen at a restaurant before.

The portions are super generous, but we all shared a portion of halloumi fries which were deliciously crunchy. They were nice but nothing will beat the Oli Baba’s halloumi fries for me. These halloumi fries were quite thin and lacked a little seasoning.

We skipped dessert as we were all so full, but we decided to give their in house vodka a try!

Revolution bars vodka flavours

Revolution bars vodka shots

Revolution pride themselves in their handcrafted and triple distilled vodka produced in their very own vodka factory, with flavours sourced from all over the world. There are 30 different flavours to choose from, including Love Candy, White Chocolate, Melted Ice Cream and Rhubarb & Custard. I chose the Salted Caramel Popcorn vodka shot which tasted just as I hoped, sweet with caramel and an aftertaste of fresh popcorn. Danielle had the Bubblegum flavour and Hannah went for the Birthday Cake shot. I can’t wait to visit a Revolution bar again and try all the different flavoured vodka shots!

Revolution Southend definitely exceeded my expectations and I had such a great night. I can’t wait to visit again for a lazy afternoon in the Upper Terrace sipping on more whacky cocktails!
