Pisa In 48 Hours: What I Want To Do

Pisa

I’m going on my 3rd city break this year; this time I’m heading to the land of history, sun and… pizza!

I went to Budapest for the weekend with Jade and we had such a great time exploring the city, but we wanted our next break to be somewhere that didn’t require thermals, hat, gloves and scarves…

So we’re flying out to Pisa on April the 28th and flying home on May 1st for a bank holiday weekend break.

Which means we have approximately 60 hours to cram in as much sight seeing, bus touring, pizza eating and cocktail drinking as we can!

If you’ve been to Pisa before, I’d love to hear some recommendations on places to visit, trips to go on and restaurants to eat at.

For now, here are a few things I’d love to do whilst we’re in Pisa. Recommendations on things to do, eat and see are welcome!

The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Pisa is obviously home to the leaning tower of Pisa, so a trip there is very much needed. They do guided tours around the grounds and you can also buy tickets to climb up the tower to enjoy the views. I’d love to go up the tower when the sun is setting – the views look beautiful! We’re staying at Allegroitalia Pisa Tower Plaza and you can see the leaning tower of Pisa in the distance – so fingers crossed for clear days!

Pisa Baptistery

The Pisa Baptistery was constructed in 1152 and was completed in 1363 and is nestled on the same ground as The Leaning Tower of Pisa; it’s the largest baptistery in Italy and features marble pillars and Gothic decor. I’d love to walk around this building and soak in the atmosphere, the decor just looks incredible.

Florence

A day trip to Florence

We hadn’t really researched Pisa before we booked it, so other than The Leaning Tower of Pisa, we’re unsure what else we have planned… After a little searching, we found out Florence is a popular place to visit on a day trip from Pisa. Florence is home to beautiful terracotta buildings, bell towers and winding narrow cobbled streets. We’re looking at heading to Florence as a day trip to enjoy strolling around quirky boutiques and enjoy alfresco dining – not forgetting paying a visit to trattorias, gelaterias and wine bars! When in Italy, eh?

Borgo Stretto

Borgo Stretto is a traditional shopping quarter with bakeries, eateries and designer fashion shops. My budget certainly wont stretch far enough to warrant a designer purchase BUT I’m excited to take a stroll down the streets and take photos of the cobbled streets and ice cream treats that I will most definitely have in my hand every day.

II Montino

Pisa’s original, and oldest, pizzeria is a must for me. There’s nothing posh or fancy about this pizzeria, they just sell traditional pizzas and foccacine (small flat rolls) that you can eat there or takeaway to eat in the sun. It was built in the XIX Century – so around 200 years ago – and is still standing today providing tourists, and a locals, big slices of pizza heaven!

I am so excited to eat pizza, pasta and garlic bread, soaking up the sun rays with some traditional Itlaian wine in hand. I feel like this trip will be based around lots of walking and lots of eating – so that makes me VERY happy! Photos are taken from pixaby.com – the handiest stock photo site!

Have you been to Pisa before? Please send all your recommendations my way!

Sounds exciting, I can’t wait to read your posts about Pisa. I knew only about The Leaning Tower of Pisa, obviously, but the rest on your list must be very interesting too. x

I visited the leaning tower of Pisa a long time ago while I was on a Mediterranean cruise. We didn’t have the time to visit the city and I hardly remember anything so I would love to go again 🙂

I’ve been to Pisa twice and I totally agree with your plan, I think that it’s really easy to do Pisa in less than a day so I would recommend definitely heading to Florence for the other day!
    Have a lovely time 🙂

Pisa was fun visiting – but that was mostly because of the time: Since Pisa is a city with an university, you can be sure to have lots of young folks there. Combining this with carnival (been there in February 2014) you can get some great and funny evenings.
Also, yeah Florence is nearby, Lucca, the Grotta del Vento, … Pisa is a nice central place to explore the tuscan area
